Data Protection Update - Türkiye: The Annual Financial Balance Sheet Total Limit for Exemption from VERBIS Registration Obligation has been Updated as 100 Million TL

The Personal Data Protection Board's decision dated 06.07.2023 and numbered 2023/114 ("Decision") amending the exemption criteria for the obligation to register with the Data Controllers Registry (“VERBIS”) was published in the Official Gazette dated July 25, 2023, and numbered 32259.

With the Decision, the "annual financial balance sheet total" amount of TRY 25 million, which was accepted as a criterion for exemption from the obligation to register to the Data Controllers Registry with the Board decision dated 19.07.2018 and numbered 2018/87, has been re-evaluated in line with the economic conditions in our country and updated as TRY 100 million.

In this case, natural or legal person data controllers with less than 50 employees and an annual financial balance sheet total of less than TRY 100 million, whose main activity is not processing sensitive personal data, are exempt from the obligation to register with the Data Controllers Registry (VERBIS).

The Decision entered into force on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
