NOTIFICATION FROM TURKISH DATA PROTECTION AUTHORITY REGARDING TURKISH ECONOMY BANK (TEB)!
The Turkish Data Protection Authority (“TDPA”) published a new notification on 17.07.2019. Notification was made in accordance with Article 12(5) of the Turkish Data Protection Law numbered 6698 which stipulates that data controllers are obliged to notify data subjects and/or the TDPA in case of data breaches. TDPA was notified that;
-During the regular controls it was detected that in two branches of the bank, some suspicious log-in to databases by 3 personnel were found,
-Although that personnel were authorized to log-in to such databases, the right was used for unauthorized purposes,
-With such access to the system, the personnel attained personal data of clients which they may have transferred to third parties,
-As a result of such a breach, it is suspected that 17.582 client and 7.706 non-client data subjects may be affected.
The TDPA states that their investigation is still in progress regarding the above-mentioned breach.
