DATA BREACH NOTIFICATION FROM OZYEGIN UNIVERSITY

The Turkish Data Protection Authority (“DPA”) has recently announced a data breach notification made by Ozyegin University to the Personal Data Protection Board (“Board”).

In the data breach notification, it is stated that:

  • A table containing personal data which is available on the commercial website, www.ozyegin.edu.tr , was deemed to be attacked,
  • The University was aware of the attack through a phone call by the authorised operator in USOM on 28.12.2020,
  • Forensic informatics and information security investigations were initiated,
  • As a result of the first examination, the personal data affected by the breach includes name-surname, phone number, ID number and former education information,
  • 1665 people were affected by the breach, and some of them are foreigners, and the numbers are still tried to confirmed in terms of nationality.

The Board has decided continuity of the investigation, and publication of the data breach on the website.
